Work has started on the $100 million new Science and Engineering Building at Union College in Schenectady, NY, a project large enough to receive mention in the monthly national Dodge Analytics Momentum index report.
Turner Construction Company, which has worked on other projects at the college, is the general contractor.
Albany Business Journal reports the project architect is EYP Inc. of Albany. Charles Kirby is the principal in charge; David Clemenzi is the project administrator; and Bruce Molino is the project designer. Â At press time, there was a job offer posting online from Union College for a three-year term project manager position with the university to oversee the construction.
The project calls for the demolition of two of the five sections of the current science and engineering center. “The remaining three sections will be redesigned and renovated, and a new landmark building devoted to teaching and research laboratories will be constructed in the courtyard adjoining the redesigned building,” the college says. “Together, these new spaces will occupy 142,000 sq. ft. and house state-of-the-art laboratories, classrooms, collaborative learning spaces for students and faculty, and faculty offices.”
