Texas transportation officials have adopted a 10-year transportation plan valued at more than $104 billion, while total state transportation funding for highway projects, maintenance and development is expected to reach about $148 billion.
The Texas Transportation Commission unanimously approved the 2025 Unified Transportation Program on Aug. 27. The plan authorizes highway projects for development and construction across the state.
The $148 billion total is $5.6 billion more than the previous year’s figure, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The plan includes about $43 billion for routine maintenance and ongoing development in addition to the 10-year program.
A significant portion of the funding is directed toward congestion relief. The Texas Clear Lanes program, which targets some of the state’s most congested roadways, received a $1.9 billion increase. Since 2015, the state has committed $75.8 billion to completed, under-construction and planned non-tolled congestion projects through the program.
About $17.3 billion is allocated for safety improvements, while another $1.7 billion is designated for rural corridors and roads connecting major economic centers.
“Strengthening our roadways and transportation infrastructure is critical for Texas to remain the Best State for Business in the nation,” Gov. Greg Abbottsaid in a statement.
The Unified Transportation Program is updated annually and serves as the state’s 10-year plan for highway and transportation projects.
