Construction is now underway on the expansion of Jerry Richardson Stadium in Charlotte, NC, which will add approximately 2,400 seats and premium amenities, bringing total capacity to around 17,700. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2027.The expansion focuses on the east concourse above the student section and includes a new tower above the current press box. The tower will feature suites, loge boxes, ledge seating, an indoor club, and a terrace. Beyond athletics, the upgraded facility is designed to support community events and provide year-round access for student-athletes.
Barton Malow is serving as the construction manager for the project, overseeing all aspects of the expansion, including structural upgrades, premium seating installation, and infrastructure improvements to ensure minimal disruption to game-day operations.
The expansion comes amid record demand for Charlotte 49ers football tickets. Interest in the program and anticipation for head coach Tim Albin’s inaugural season contributed to the highest season ticket sales in program history, resulting in a sellout for the 2025 season. Returning season ticket holders are renewing at the highest rate ever recorded.
During construction, the stadium’s current capacity will remain in use, though modifications to the game-day experience are expected as work progresses. Fans interested in future premium seating options can register at Charlotte49ers.com/StadiumExpansion.
The project is part of a broader effort to enhance the fan experience and provide modern facilities for athletics and community programming.
