HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital, in partnership with Hernando County and community leaders, held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday to kick off construction of a new freestanding emergency department in Spring Hill.
The future HCA Florida Oak Hill South Emergency will be located at 11242 Spring Hill Dr., with construction set to begin later this summer. The $15.4 million structure is expected to open in 2026 and will expand access to emergency medical services for residents in southern Hernando County.
“Offering additional emergency services in Hernando County will help support our growing community and care for residents who may need advanced care locally,” said Ken Wicker, CEO of HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. “Our plans to build a new emergency room will help serve the southern part of the county with the same great service offered at Oak Hill Hospital.”
Hernando County Commissioner Jeff Rogers welcomed the investment, saying the new facility will strengthen the county’s emergency care network.
“We want to thank HCA for making such a significant investment in our community,” Rogers said. “The new Emergency Room will extend the capabilities of HCA to care for patients who may need stroke, heart and other advanced therapies offered at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital.”
The ceremony featured remarks from Wicker, Rogers and Dr. Jonathan Schwadron, emergency services medical director at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking with members of the hospital’s board of trustees, staff and invited guests.
The freestanding emergency room will be the first of its kind in Hernando County affiliated with HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital. It will connect local residents to a broader network of more than 650 HCA Florida Healthcare sites across the state.
