Florida A&M University in Tallahassee is breaking ground on the $39 million one-stop student center.
Sameer Kapileshwari, associate vice-president for facilities, planning, construction and safety, said the university spent approximately $519,000 in architecture and engineering fees, asbestos and lead-paint survey and IT costs towards the approximately 82,000 sq. ft. Center for Access and Student Success (CASS).
Earlier this year, the legislature approved $3.5 million toward the project – although that funding is awaiting Gov. Rick Scott’s approval. In addition, FAMU previously received $12.6 million in state capital projects funding, Kapileshwari said.
The CASS building would feature a brick veneer style, paying tribute to the classic architectural style of FAMU’s campus, The Talahassee Democrat reported Kapileshwari as saying. He estimates construction to be completed in 2019.
