The city of Anderson has set July 18 as the deadline for bids to the Anderson Board of Public Works to construct a new water treatment plant, The Herald Bulletin reports.
Anderson Water Department superintendent Neal McKee said the new plant will be capable of treating 10 million gallons of water per day and the engineer’s estimate for construction is $7.8 million.
The plant will be built at the current location of the Lafayette water treatment plant. The project is expected to take 12 to 17 months to complete.
Construction on the plant is expected to take 12 to 17 months to complete, which means it could begin operation in late 2018 or early 2019. The project is being funded through a 20-year, $14.2 million bond approved by the Anderson City Council last year.
The Herald Bulletin reports the bond will also be used to replace the four wells at the Lafayette Well Field, replace water mains in Homewood, and upgrade the Wheeler Ave. water treatment plant.
