Boys and Girls of Club Fort Wayne plans to build new $7.7 million facility

The Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne (BGCFW) plans to replace its current 26,000-sq.ft. facility with a new and bigger building worth $7.7 million.

Per the announcement made on Dec. 5, the existing structure would be demolished before any work is started on the new 42,000-sq.ft. building. Demolition is slated for January 2018, and completion of the organization’s facility is expected the same year. The general contractor will be Michael Kinder and Sons of Fort Wayne.

Approval from the Fort Wayne Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals are still needed for the proposed project to move forward.

Currently, the BGCFW has raised a total of $7.2 million. These funds will support the project, intended to accommodate its growing population. By doubling the space, the organization will be able to better provide programs and services to children. The group also plans to dedicate the top floor of its facility to the organization’s teenage connections.

To raise additional funding, the organization will hold a public fundraising event on January 11, 2018 between 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm.

“Each day more than 500 low-income school aged children benefit from Boys and Girls Club of Fort Wayne (BGCFW) programs and services,” stated the organization on its official website. “Last year, 3000 children were served by one of our four sites.”
