Charlotte’s Firehouse 30 is undergoing a historic transformation as it becomes the city’s first all-electric firehouse. The $16.39 million facility, located at 3019 Beam Rd/, will set a new standard for sustainability and emergency response.

The project is currently under construction, with an estimated completion date of December 2025.It will replace a temporary structure built in 1955. The original firehouse, located at 4707 Belle-Oaks Drive near Charlotte Douglas International Airport, was inadequate to meet the growing demands of the area.
“This project represents our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and ensuring the safety of Charlotte’s residents and visitors,” said Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson. “Firehouse 30 is more than just a facility; it’s a beacon of progress and preparedness for our community.”

The design of Firehouse 30 blends modern innovation with the traditional aesthetic of a classic firehouse. The building’s brick-and-bronze exterior honors the history of firefighting while incorporating contemporary elements. The facility will be 14,000 square feet, featuring three bays for fire apparatus, living quarters for firefighters, and a catwalk for operational efficiency.
When completed, the firehouse will be entirely electric, in line with Charlotte’s environmental goals. It will also house the Southeast’s first all-electric North American-style fire engine. The building’s eco-friendly design and green technology solidify Charlotte’s leadership in sustainability.
Located across from the Police and Fire Training Academy, the facility’s location optimizes response times. It sits on a three-acre site, improving the department’s ability to manage high call volumes, including those generated by the nearby airport.
“Replacing the temporary structure with this innovative facility not only addresses current needs but also anticipates future demands,” Johnson said. “This firehouse will serve as a model for other cities looking to invest in sustainable and effective emergency response infrastructure.”
Firehouse 30’s all-electric design marks a milestone for Charlotte Fire and the broader firefighting community. The facility exemplifies the department’s embrace of technology while staying focused on its core mission of protecting lives and property.
The new facility’s location, design, and eco-friendly features make it a cornerstone of Charlotte’s future vision. Residents and visitors can look forward to a safer, greener city, thanks to investments like Firehouse 30.
