Chicago has been the nation’s second largest regional market throughout the US for industrial construction development in the past decade, and is continuing to thrive, according to data compiled by Commercial Cafe.

The largest market nation-wide is the Inland Empire in California, and the largest city market is Houston, TX, but Chicago’s volume of 108.7 million sq. ft. in the past decade, with an additional 5.5 million sq. ft. anticipated by the end of the year, puts it near the top nationally.

In the mid-west, the most active city is Joliet, ranking 11th with 12.1 million sq. ft. delivered in the past 10 years; it’s also expecting to add 4.9 million sq. ft. to its inventory in 6 new buildings among which: Core5 Logistics Center, building 14 in Rock Run Business Park and Rock Creek Logistics Center.

Romeoville is a close second, with deliveries amounting to 10.9 million sq. ft. in 26 buildings; new deliveries are expected in Paragon Business Park and at 5 Greenwood Ave.
