A construction company is reviewing security measures after two parachutists jumped from a 17-story construction crane at the corner of Hargett and McDowell Streets.

Raleigh Police Department responded to the new City Hall construction site in the 200 block of West Hargett Street at about 2 a.m., for a report of someone trespassing on the crane.

The project’s general contractors are Brasfield & Gorrie and Holt Brothers Construction.

Officers found two people with parachutes at the top of the crane. Shortly later, the two jumped off the crane and onto the top parking deck of City Hall.

The individuals, identified as 51-year-old Jason McClure and 37-year-old Jorge Chacon, were arrested by Raleigh police and charged with First-Degree Trespassing and Resisting Public Officer.

“We’re thankful no one was hurt and we’re evaluating site security protocols,” Brasfield and Gorrie, the company overseeing the City Hall construction project, said in a statement acknowledging the incident.

McClure and Chacon have been identified as experienced skydiving champions in social media posts.
