Florida A&M University will begin construction on a new 700-bed residence

Florida A&M University officials broke ground this week in Tallahassee on a new, 700-bed dormitory.

The housing is slated for upperclassmen and is part of an ongoing project to give students more living options while combating the rising cost of off-campus housing. The new residence hall will be located off Osceola Street and South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near FAMU Towers.

FINFROCK Construction, LLC is the housing project’s contractor, architect, structural engineer and general contractor.

Two four-story buildings with 350 rooms each are expected to open by fall 2025 and will bring the total number of on-campus beds to more than 4,000.

The $97.5 million project is being funded through a 30-year $97.5 million federal loan from the U.S. Department of Education’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Capital Financing Program, which funded FAMU Towers in 2018.
