Gillespie Precast, a family-run company that’s been in the concrete business for five generations, is building a new manufacturing facility in Asheboro. Based in Maryland, the company plans to invest $10 million in the project and expects to hire 39 people.
The plan is to renovate the 33-acre former Hughes Furniture property into a facility that will produce a variety of concrete products—utility vaults, manholes, and box culverts—that are used in construction and infrastructure projects. Expanding into North Carolina will help the company serve customers more efficiently throughout the East Coast and Southern states.
Frank Sisk, who leads business development for Gillespie, said the company looked at several locations before choosing Asheboro.
“When we walked the site, we just knew it was the right fit for us,” he said. “We’ve built our business on quality and service, and we feel Randolph County is built on those same principles—family, hard work, and taking care of one another,” he said.
To help support the expansion, Gillespie Precast NC LLC will receive a $120,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, a program helps local governments attract new businesses and jobs, but companies only get the money if they meet hiring and investment goals—and local governments have to pitch in too.
