Olympia Companies and Smart Hotels have received a demolition permit to remove an existing two-story building at the corner of 53rd St. and Dorchester Ave. to build a boutique hotel with 100 guest rooms, a ground floor restaurant/lounge and a rooftop deck. GREC Architects is designing the building.
Meanwhile, Curbed Chicago reports that the University of Chicago plans another hotel in the Hyde Park area “several blocks south at the intersection of Dorchester and 60th.
“According to DNAinfo, the U of C officials are seeking an operator that would be interested in taking over the Hyde Park Day School building in just such a capacity,” the website reported.
