Newspaper reports IU Health plans to build three Fort Wayne facilities

The News Sentinel has reported that  the Indiana University Health system plans to construct three facilities in Fort Wayne area and potentially more in the coming years.

Two large outpatient facilities spanning more than 20,000 sq. ft. each are believed to be planned. One will be located in the northeast while the other near the Lutheran Hospital in the southwest. Additionally, a primary care medical office will be constructed at West Jefferson Blvd. and Aboite Center Rd.

The three investments will be “tens of millions” dollars worth, said the newspaper report, quoting an anonymous source. Land has already been bought for the new facilities but construction still requires site approval by city or county planners. They are all slated to be completed and fully-operational in 2018.

A full-service hospital in Downtown Fort Wayne is also being planned for later, claimed the source but IU is committed to developing facilities in Fort Wayne for the long-term.

Brian Bauer, former CEO of the Lutheran Health Network who was fired after a local group failed in its $2.4 billion bid to acquire the network in May 2017 will serve as the CEO of IU Health Fort Wayne, revealed the source.

According to the News Sentinel, IU Health’s interest in the Fort Wayne area has been rumored for months. That interest was confirmed last month when the health care system announced the opening of a Riley Children’s Hospital facility at 409 E. Cook Rd., which specializes in pediatric urology and cardiology.
