The Raleigh-Durham International Airport Authority (RDUAA) has received just two bids for multi-million dollar parking garage maintenance work, and it says it has declined one of the bids.
The Triangle Business Journal reports that a “bid from Strickland that totaled $2.3 million was rejected after staff reviewed its references. A $6.3 million bid from Tendon Systems, however, was sent back to staff for negotiations.”
The RDUAA called a special board meeting on Jan. 9 to discuss the issue — in part because of concerns that the project (that would require 270 days to complete) needs to be completed before Thanksgiving.
The “regular maintenance,” includes pipework, concrete repair and cleaning, says airport spokesman Andrew Sawyer.
RDU documentation indicates the original engineer’s estimate for the project was $3.6 million, and the airport had budgeted to spend $4.2 million or less for the parking garage work.
