Reminder: OSHA’s new silica requirements to be enforced beginning Sept. 23

The Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors of North Carolina (PHCCNC) has published a reminder that a new federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation about respirable crystalline silica dust will be enforced for the construction trades effective Sept. 23.

The OSHA had delayed the regulation’s implementation, but it is going forward now. “This regulation reduces the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) to 50 μg/m3 over an 8-hour period
and will affect job sites nationwide.”

Information about the regulation is available at the OSHA webpage.
