Brooklyn’s first supertall tower — that is one exceeding the 1,000 ft. mark — has broken ground at 9 DeKalb Ave., New York YIMBY reports.
Machinery is on-site, and excavation work appears to be getting underway for the 1,066-ft.-tall structure, with the beginning of caisson work. The site is somewhat complicated, with the former Dime Savings Bank Building set to be preserved and integrated into the base of the new tower, comprising almost 100,000 sq. ft. of retail space, YIMBY reports.
SHoP Architects has designed project, which includes about 500 rental apartments.
Completion at the site, originally identified as 340 Flatbush Ave. Ext., was initially anticipated for the first quarter of 2019.
YIMBY says, however, a 2020/2021 estimate would be much more reasonable. Concrete pouring should begin within the next few months.
JDS Development and the Chetrit Group are the developers.
