Developer Jimmy Tate has submitted revised plans to Ft. Lauderdale city officials for the redevelopment of Fort Lauderdale’s iconic Bahia Mar Resort and Yachting Center, where the buildings will be 10 to 12 stories tall, according to Kobi Karp, a Miami-based architect and representative for Tate.
This proposal is significantly lower than the 39-story towers featured in the original plan.
The project, which would be built in four phases, also includes 651 residential units in seven buildings, a 250-room hotel, 151,000 sq. ft. of ground-floor shops and restaurants, a boardwalk surrounding the marina and a pedestrian village on property owned by the city, Karp told the Sun-Sentinel.
“I believe that this plan meets the designs and wishes expressed previously,” Karp said. “We would like to find a way to work with the city and the community.”
The designs include a half-mile boardwalk lining the marina, a parking garage with about 2,400 spaces and a 256-key hotel that would replace the current 188-room resort.
Karp said the redesign is pedestrian, traffic and boat show friendly – critiques that greatly complicated and eventually killed off a previous Bahia Mar redevelopment effort last year.
Plans still call for the existing hotel at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. to be demolished.
