In_Fill Design Competition deadline Feb. 28

The entry deadline is approaching for the In_Fill Design Competition 2017, “a design competition to explore affordable, well-designed, and contextual contemporary single-family homes on infill lots across Indiana’s walkable core communities.”

The competition is sponsored by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Indiana, The Indiana Builders Association and Downtown Indy, and includes project challenges for Anderson, Evansville and Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis site is at 1950 Cornell Ave.

It is described as a “dense central neighborhood that is very well-connected to activity of all kinds. The lot is a 20-minute walk from Meridian Street and the coming Red Line bus rapid transit line, and within a ten minute walk of four other bus lines.”

The IPS school Center for Inquiry School 27 is five blocks west; the walking path takes one through Martin Luther King Memorial Park, a historically significant and very popular neighborhood park. A charter school is also within a few minutes’ walk. Two blocks to the north, East 22nd Street is quickly becoming a hotbed of small restaurants and retail, while renowned local restaurant Kountry Kitchen Soul Food Place is immediately south. Transit makes jobs of all kinds reachable from this site, and manufacturing companies are located nearby to the east.
