The Chicago Building Congress (CBC) is set to host a luncheon and presentation on March 5, featuring Related Midwest’s landmark 400 Lake Shore development. The event, held at the Union League Club of Chicago, will offer attendees an in-depth look at the project, which is transforming the last waterfront site where Lake Michigan meets the Chicago River.
The luncheon will commence with networking at 11:30 am, followed by lunch and the featured presentation at 12:00 pm in the Union League Club’s Presidents Hall. Leading the discussion will be a panel moderated by Ann Thompson, executive vice-president of Architecture and Design at Related Midwest.
Panelists include Don Biernacki, executive vice-president of construction at Related Midwest and a CBC Award of Honor recipient; Nosa C. Ehimwenman, president and CEO of BOWA Construction; and Terry Gillespie, project executive at Related Midwest.
The 400 Lake Shore project is poised to redefine Chicago’s skyline, featuring two towers designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill with David Childs.
The 72-story North Tower, currently under construction, will rise 857 feet and house 635 rental residences, with 20% designated as affordable housing. The tower is slated for completion in early 2027.
A significant highlight of the project is the co-construction of the North Tower by LR Contracting Company, Related Midwest’s in-house contracting company, and BOWA Construction. Notably, BOWA Construction made history by becoming the first minority-owned general contractor to co-build a high-rise in Chicago through its prior work on The Row Fulton Market.
The development also emphasizes public green space, with plans to partner with the Chicago Park District to revitalize DuSable Park, a 3.3-acre site honoring Chicago’s founder, Jean Baptiste Point DuSable. This will be accessible via Founders Way, an extension of the Chicago Riverwalk.
The project features architectural nods to Chicago’s heritage, including a modern reimagining of the iconic “Chicago Window.”
Interior design is being handled by MAWD, known for their work on Related’s The Row Fulton Market, and Stantec is serving as the Architect of Record.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view renderings and construction progress photos of the 400 Lake Shore project.
