The annual Spring Summit will take place on Thursday, May 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Oak Brook, near the end of the Safety Stand Down week, the Builders Association (BA) reports.
“This year’s event will feature important tips for risk management for contractors, honor Chicagoland’s safety all-stars with our Contractor Safety Awards, and provide time for invaluable industry networking,” the BA announcement says.
Steve Coughran of Coltivar Group will be give a presentation titled Managing Risk through Adaptive Strategy.
The construction industry is increasingly shaped by regulations, intense competition, and a growing labor deficit. In the modern economy, a company cannot sustain long-term success through a single core competency. Today’s market requires a push for organizational learning to remain relevant. Coughran’s presentation will discuss the barriers to strategic success that erode company profitability and will guide attendees in creating adaptable, learning-centric strategies. Steve will also introduce methods to implement efficient organizational structures and process enhancement to mitigate risk and strengthen competitive advantage.
McShane Construction Company is the lunch sponsor.

The summit occurs near the end of the annual Safety Stand Downs through the week of May 8 to 12. This year’s focus will be on struck-bys and caught-ins, the leading cause of fatalities in the area.
The BA says more than 200 jobsites and 4,000 workers in the Chicago area participated in the 2016 Safety Stand Down.
“Builders Association provides all Stand Down presentation materials to participating companies free of charge and companies may Stand Down at as many jobsites as they wish.”
