Franciscan Health is working on a $50 million new outpatient and specialty care pavilion and a connecting micro-hospital, including an emergency department in White River Township. Its location is near State Road 135 and Stones Crossing Rd.
The general contractor is Tonn and Blank Construction and the designer is architect Arc Design.
“Franciscan Health is committed to providing high quality healthcare with convenient access to those we serve,” president and CEO James Callaghan said in a statement. “White River Township in Johnson County has experienced dynamic growth in recent years and we have been researching and planning the development of a medical complex that best serves the overall needs of people in this area and beyond.”
The 85,000 sq. ft., three-story medical complex will include:
- 58 patient exam rooms for family medicine and internal medicine services. This space will enable doctors and nurses to work more collaboratively. Additionally, this area also would include six consultation rooms which can be used by clinical educators.
- A pediatric wing with 16 exam rooms
- Lab and blood draw rooms
- Full-scale imaging services (ultrasound, CT, MRI and X-ray)
- A 15-room “Flex Clinic” to be used with different specialty physicians on a rotation basis
- A rehabilitation area with seven treatment bays, hand therapy, speech therapy and activities of daily living kitchen
- Office space for obstetrical and gynecological care
- A wellness/spa area offering services such as massage therapy, acupuncture, mammography, vein clinic and bone density scanning. Some of this area would be dedicated for retail sales.
“Our micro-hospital is a model of value-based care and focuses on providing the right kind of care at the right time at the right location for patients residing in that area,” said Robert J. Brody, senior vice-president of ambulatory services and chief operating officer for Franciscan Alliance. “This fully-licensed facility, which will operate around-the-clock every day of the year, offers accessible, convenient and cost-effective access points to all of Johnson County and in communities farther south as well.”
The adjoining 20,000 sq. ft. Franciscan Health Stones Crossing micro-hospital and emergency department, will include:
- A freestanding emergency department with approximately 10 emergency bays or exam rooms which will operate 24/7 and include full imaging and lab support. The benefit of this facility will be shorter wait times and, if necessary, the means to stabilize patients if more acute emergency care or hospital admission is required.
- Approximately eight inpatient rooms
Both facilities are expected to be complete in late fall 2018, Franciscan Health says.
